Sub goalie Jason Brooks named Marc Mesh Player of the Week
In a rematch of the last two league title games, BullsEye and the Blazers battled on October 14, and BullsEye came away with its first-ever win over the defending champs, 8-5, as goalie Jason Brooks made his first Boston Box Lacrosse League appearance of the season and came away as Marc Mesh Player of the Week.
Brooks – filling in for a vacationing starter – made 22 saves and frustrated the Blazers throughout the night, as BullsEye overcame a 3-2 halftime deficit behind a balanced attack that saw seven different players score goals. Ben Smith’s two goals and Dan DiMaria’s two points led the way for a BullsEye squad that grabbed second place in the league and improved to 2-1 on the fall session; the Blazers got two goals from Brandon Keith and 28 saves from league-leading goalie Joe Evans.
In the night’s other action, the MegaMen completed their first trip through the BBLL unbeaten, jumping out to an 8-2 halftime lead, before a mostly even second half led to a 15-8 finish. Bobby Dabrieo (5 goals, 1 assist) and Bryan Bendig (4 goals, 2 assists) led the way for the league’s most prolific offense, with Mike Maggio chipping in a goal and four assists. Jason Wellemeyer’s four goals led PrimeTime.
With one-third of the regular season now in the books, Maggio (6 goals, 7 assists, 13 points), Dabrieo (10-3-13) and Bendig (9-3-12) stand 1-2-3 in the points race. Dabrieo and Wellemeyer share the league’s goal-scoring lead with 10 markers each.
On October 21, BullsEye and PrimeTime will open the evening, with the MegaMen looking to extend their first-place lead in the nightcap against the Blazers.
