Jukebox Lacrosse, a young company making cutting-edge shafts, gloves and pads for box lacrosse, is partnering with the Boston Box Lacrosse League to sponsor the league’s Most Valuable Player Awards for the 2018-19 regular-season and playoffs.

The company, based in Calgary, Alberta, will award top-player honors in each of the BBLL’s playoff games, as well as for the 2018-19 season. Winners will receive Jukebox shafts, which are lightweight, composite and textured, but also strong enough to withstand the punishment of the box game.

“There are busted sticks left behind on our benches every week, and there is definitely room for innovation in box lacrosse,” said Randy Fraser, founder of the BBLL. “Any time we can see new products designed with the player in mind, it’s good for the game. We’re happy to be able to introduce the players in the Boston Box League to Jukebox.”

Jukebox founder Jeff Pilon started his company because he felt there was a need for better, safer, sturdier gear when his son Jake started playing. The company has already brought shafts and gloves to market and has developed a patented design for shoulder pads designed to make the box game safer for young players.

Jukebox shafts are engineered with the player in mind. The new JB600 is light enough for field lacrosse but sturdy enough for all levels of the box game. The soon-to-be-released ATLAS is a heavier shaft developed at the suggestion of box coaches who wanted their defenders equipped “with something to make an offensive player think twice about crashing through the middle,” Pilon said.

All Jukebox shafts combine high-impact zones necessary to survive the physicality of the box game with unique texture and grip to improve the players’ stick control.

“The BBLL has done a good job of growing the box game from the grassroots level to developing players who are now playing on the game’s biggest stages,” Pilon said, “which makes it a perfect partner for a company like ours, which is starting at the grassroots level developing products that we hope the game’s best players would be proud to use.”

The Boston Box Lacrosse League, a member of US Indoor Lacrosse, will play its 2018-19 finals on Feb. 26 at South Shore Sports Center in Hingham. The championship game will feature regular-season champion Bullseye against the Blazers, five-time defending champs. For stats, standings and more information, go to BostonBoxLax.com.
