Rogowski’s 10-point night dooms Minutemen; Towler’s heroics sink Bullseye

The Blazers went on an eight-goal run to open the game and the MegaWhales used a three-goal spurt in a game of runs to break a second-half tie, as both teams remained unbeaten in Boston Box Lacrosse League action on Oct. 24 at South Shore Sports Center in Hingham.

Greg Rogowski had a hand in six of the Blazers first seven goals – and finished with 10 points on the night – as the Blazers raced out to an 8-0 lead just over halfway into the game’s first half. The Minutemen clawed back to make it 10-4 at the break, and closed to 11-9 – with another apparent score waved off due to operator error on the three-point clock – before the Blazers stemmed the bleeding and Rogo picked up his final goal and assist  as the team scored twice down the stretch to close out a 13-9 win.

Rogowski’s five goals and five assists led the way, but Davey Emala, Brandon Dube, Kevin Murphy, Marty Bowes and Kurt Hunziker all contributed at least two points in the victory, and Joe Evans stopped 34 shots for the win. All 13 of the Blazers’ goals were assisted. Bryce Serriello – the league’s leading scorer – potted four to lead the Minutemen, with Ed Doherty adding two scores and Neil Calkin and Ryan Murphy each posting multi-point nights.

In the nightcap, Tim Towler’s four goals included a first-half hat trick that helped the MegaWhales erase a three-goal first half deficit and turn it into a two-score halftime lead over Bullseye. When Bullseye climbed out of that halftime hole to tie the score at 9, the MegaWhales responded by scoring five of the game’s next six goals to take the first meeting against last year’s regular-season champs by a final of 14-12.

Greg Melaugh, Dan Hettler and Mike Maggio chipped in with two goals each for the winners to go with Towler’s game-high four scores. Goalie Chris Hettler had two length-of-the-floor assists to go with 28 saves in the win.

Justin Turri’s six-point night for Bullseye (two goals, four assists) was tops on the game, but Will Walker netted a hat trick, and Chris Breiner and Charlie Fay both scored twice for Bullseye.

The BBLL returns to action on Halloween night, with Bullseye facing the Blazers at 9 p.m., followed by PrimeTime and the Minutemen both trying to gain their first win in the nightcap.
